Legalisation and notarisation

With our in-house notarisation and legalisation service, Svetlova LLP in London ensures essential documentation is recognised by appropriate authorities in the UK and worldwide. If necessary, we offer a mobile service, travelling to clients’ homes or businesses to deal with all formalities swiftly and with precision.

To comply with money laundering and other regulations, our solicitors must obtain appropriate identification. In the case of a document relating to a company, proof of incorporation should be provided.

Avoid uncertainty and procedural delays with our comprehensive notarisation service

Notarisation is often required for documents which are to be used by formal governmental and legal bodies. You may need a notary in the following circumstances:

  • To verify your passport
  • When you wish to use a power of attorney abroad
  • To swear an affidavit for use in a foreign court
  • To register a patent or trademark
  • In order to authenticate company resolutions, board minutes and other company business
  • To verify property transfer documents or deeds

We provide a full range of certification and notarisation services, including consular or “apostille” legalization of documents to corporate and private clients. We also provide expert guidance on whether an official translation of documentation is required.

Certification Of Documents

This is a less formal procedure required for documents to be used officially by non-governmental organisations, including universities, schools, insurance providers and others. Examples of documents that require certification include:

  • Birth and marriage certificates
  • Divorce decrees
  • Official school and university transcripts
  • Regulatory documents, including powers of attorney and contracts
  • Utility bills

Legalisation (“Apostille”)

This is required for documents, which are to be used overseas with countries working in compliance with the Hague Convention. The documents are sent to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), where the official confirms that the Notary Public signing the notarisation had the authority to do so. This final document acts as proof that all legal avenues have been completed and that the authenticity of the document should not be contested.
